Gait Evaluations

As with any activity such as golf, bowling, shooting a basketball, walking, jogging, running, there is a specific pattern and sequencing of motor movement that is the most efficient. When the sequencing and patterns are disrupted in gait, there is increased instability. The increased stress on muscles and joints can increase the chance of injury. Patients undergo a dynamic gait assessment which may include slow-motion videotaping and analysis, timed up and go assessment or be assessed via the dynamic gait index (DGI). Treatments are then developed to address the patient's limitations that are causing the diminished gait pattern.
